Bharti AirTel Going to Merge With South Africa’s MTL Group?

Bharti airtel and South Africa’s MTL group merger talks extended until 30th september 2009. This merge talk has been extended 2nd time. Earlier, the first merger talk extended up to 31 august 2009. These merger talks related to create the world’s third largest mobile operator by merging airtel with MTL group.
Regarding this merger talks bharti airtel says that “Discussions regarding the potential transaction continue to progress satisfactorily and no decision or agreement to acquire any share or implement the potential transaction has yet been made by the board of either Bharti or MTN and the discussion may or may not lead to any transaction.
If the merger is gone successfully between bharti airtel and MTL group, the total number subscribers reaches more than 200 million customers across india, Africa and the Middle East. Bharti airtel and MTL group will be third largest mobile operator in the world.
In this merger bharti airtel holds taking a 49 per cent stake in MTN while MTN shareholders would have 36 per cent stake in Bharti.
