Reliance Communications Providing High Speed Internet Connections to Rural and Village CustomersReliance communications (Rcom) today started their initiatives to target rural and village customers by providing high speed internet connections (BharatNet plan), Grameen VAS and M2M (Machine to Machine) solutions to move the internet penetration in india to next level generation.

BharatNet plan: BharatNet plan is an another variant of Reliance NetConnect service covers 20000 villages across india. BharatNet Plan specially designed for rural and village customers offering internet speed upto 153Kbps, which is 4-8 times faster than existing dialup network. Rcom plans to offer BharatNet broadband tariff Rs.98 week with downloads upto 350MB and only applicable for rural and village customers and speed will improve since it is no longer dependent on the quality of the copper wire.

Grameen VAS: Grameen VAS (Value added service) aiming on rural and village mobile consumers in over 500,000 Indian villages. Through Grameen VAS Rcom Offers many specialised services including mandi bhav, agriculture and animal husbandry updates, weather forecast, local info, samachar etc in all indian regional languages. These services categorized broadly under mLearning, mHealth, mCommerce, mUpdates and GroupSampark (Community Messaging). These services can be accessed via different modes i.e. voice portals, SMS, USSD, data (R-World) etc. To increase adoption, Grameen VAS is priced at Rs 15/month.

M2M solutions: Through M2M (Machine to Machine) opportunity for rural market includes automation of agro and irrigation services, water level monitoring and data gathering for milk and agri-cooperatives, fisheries, poultry and soil analysis. Similar such opportunities for the urban include mobile ticketing, purchase@Kiosks and vending machines, and remote monitoring of office automation products.
